Lake-Meile
Focus areas
The EasyMile vehicle will run from the Alt-Tegel subway station to the lakeside terraces (about 600 meters) on lake Tegel on weekdays and weekends and can carry up to six passengers. The ride is free of charge.
The aim of the pilot project is to test the innovative technology of automated driving on a real route with mixed traffic and, at the same time, bring it closer to the urban population. Important findings, e.g. on traffic safety and the operation/use of highly automated vehicles on public roads, will be obtained as part of the project. Here, the project partners want to test an automated vehicle for the first time over a longer period on public roads in a major German city.
Key questions related to the project include:
Can automated shuttles be used as an additional service to Berlin's public transport system?
Can detail-related questions on traffic safety and specific infrastructure requirements, e.g. stops, turning loops, parking, power supply or the necessary technical infrastructure be answered satisfactorily?
How does the technology resonate with users, residents/neighbors, and stakeholders?
