CHARGING AT FAST CHARGING HUBS

The additional installation and operation of a public-access charging infrastructure also includes the provision of different charging services according to the needs of different user groups. So-called fast charging enables shorter downtimes thanks to higher charging power - High Power Charging (HPC) uses up to 350 kW.

Fast charging is comparable to classic refueling processes and primarily addresses selective intermediate charging on longer journeys or - particularly relevant for urban users - a charging process for people who cannot (or do not want to) fall back on an AC charging point (normal charging) at their place of residence or work.

Current market developments show that the demand for a public-access fast-charging infrastructure is increasing. The trend is clearly toward the expansion of DC or HPC charging hubs with multiple charging points per location. However, one factor is limited in urban areas: The availability of suitable, publicly-accessible land to build larger charging hubs. The necessary connection to the medium-voltage grid also often creates challenges in terms of construction and licensing.
