Negotiations have been drawn out over months. However, decisions have finally been made that are sending important signals to the market. Not only the buyer’s premium collectively advocated by the federal government and the auto industry, but also the expansion of the charging infrastructure and the adaptation of hitherto inhibitory laws and regulations are confronting the most significant reservations – both real and perceived – against electric cars yet: in terms of price, charging infrastructure and coverage.

Since 2013, more than 100 companies, scientific and political facilities have been working to enhance the development of electromobility in the Berlin-Brandenburg Showcase. Its commitment has created valuable incentives for jobs and added value in the region. In particular, the 30 key projects with a total volume of approx. €76 million have helped make the capital region the largest practice lab in Germany today. The results from the last four years of the Showcase will be presented to the public today at the "Results conference Showcase for Electromobility" in Leipzig.

Berlin April 1, 2016: The capital region takes a leading position in Germany with around 770 charging points (as of March 28, 2016). Based on the population, the 636 charging stations makes Berlin the place with the densest network compared to more than 900 cities and towns in Germany. Stuttgart and Hamburg, by a wide margin, are following in second and third place. Also in terms of spatial surface, Berlin is again at the helm among all the states, followed by Hamburg and Bremen.

Berlin 03/16/2016: The worldwide trend of intelligent, city-friendly and environmentally friendly mobility promises great potential for Berlin’s economic development.
