5G-MOBIX will develop and test automated vehicle functionalities using 5G core technological innovations along multiple cross-border corridors and urban trial sites, under conditions of vehicular traffic, network coverage, service demand, as well as considering the inherently distinct legal, business and social local aspects.
The 5G-MOBIX infrastructure in Germany comprises of two open and urban corridors (i.e. automated vehicles co-exist with conventional vehicles), one located in Berlin, the other in Stuttgart. The two trial sites represent a complementary set of corridors providing different levels of controllability, dynamicity and density of mixed urban traffic composed of traditional and automated vehicles as well as other road users like pedestrians and bicyclists.
The very dense driving environment of the Berlin corridor provides ideal testing capabilities for the different addressed use cases of automated driving in urban and open environments, with a rich amount of digitized street infrastructure. The scaled down corridor located in Stuttgart enables testing of the identified use-cases in a partially controlled environment.
